List of municipalities in New Jersey





This is a list of the 565 municipalities in the U.S. state of New Jersey, ordered by population. There are five types of municipality in the state â€" boroughs (250), cities (52), towns (15), townships (245), and villages (3). New Jersey, the fourth-smallest state, covers 8,722 square miles (22,590 km2), meaning the average land size of a municipality in the state is about 15 square miles (39 km2) â€" but note the wide range of actual sizes in the map at right.
